Healing Horses is a Non-Profit Corporation committed to improving the lives of Special Needs Children, specializing in Autism, through the use of therapy horses. Our riding program is multi-faceted. We teach English,
Western and Bareback riding to accomplish specific therapeutic goals as well as providing physical,
emotional, behavioral and speech therapy on horseback.
We work toward educational goals such as pre-reading and reading, mathematics and sequencing.
The first words or signs of many of our non-verbal riders are related to riding. Therapy is
fun instead of painful when provided on horseback.
Learning becomes a game rather than a chore. Horseback riding is a complex activity that
requires integration from many different systems in the body. From the beginning, riders
learn balance, coordination and self-assurance while receiving physical and verbal stimulation
from the three dimensional movement of the horse as well as typical peer models, fellow riders
and horse leaders.
Posture, strength, and flexibility improve as does independence and a sense of control. New
confidence and positive attitudes acquired in the riding ring transfer to the classroom, home
and community.
Plus, horseback riding is fun!
